Following fieldwork with Medecins sans Frontieres in the 1990s Rebecca developed interests in caring for vulnerable migrants and in medical education. She has worked in Greater Manchester with people seeking asylum since 2005. In tangent with her work in undergraduate community medical education she designs and delivers teaching about forced migration and health and has written several publications on this topic.
Much of what she has learned from working with displaced and often traumatised people is transferable to her mainstream practice as a GP.
As the current chair of the WONCA SIG in Migrant Health she has the privilege of meeting and collaborating with other GPs working in this field internationally.
