Originally from Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Dr Bowles graduated from Manchester Medical School in 1981. Remaining in the North West, she completed training in Chemical Pathology in 1996, following which, was appointed as Consultant Chemical Pathologist at the Countess of Chester Hospital. Following the reorganisation of the laboratory services in 2008, Dr Bowles was appointed Director of Blood Sciences.
Her main interest is Lipidology: she has run the Lipid Clinic in Chester since 1997, and that at Arrowe Park Hospital since 2016.
In order to support the Immunology Service, she undertook an MSc in Allergy at Imperial College, graduating in May 2014.
Dr Bowles has a keen interest in education and training: she was Director of Postgraduate Medical Education for ten years, and continue to teach local clinicians and allied health professionals.
