Biography

Larissa has been a Consultant Paediatric Nephrologist for 15 years with a special interest in rare inherited kidney diseases and patient-centred care. Larissa has led the Transition Service between Paediatrics and Adult Care in Birmingham since 2010 and established the Transition Service in the Northeast in 2009.

Larissa became the Rare Disease Lead at Birmingham Children’s Hospital (BCH) in 2015 where she led the development of the First UK’s Children’s Rare Disease Centre. Larissa led the 100 000 Genomes Project at BCH who was the highest recruiting Trust outside London.

Larissa has been the Research Lead for Nephrology (2009 – 2019) and Clinical Research Lead for NIHR West Midlands (2016 – 2023) championing research as essential part of clinical care.

Larissa was in the top 25 Women Leaders in UK Healthcare 2019 and was awarded the Lorraine Kelly’s Hero Award having been nominated by her patients and their families.
