- Consider the important role GPs have in discussions around advance care planning and why good communication is vital
- Understand what advance care planning discussions should include
- Appreciate the legal responsibilities relating to advance care planning including Do Not Attempt Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (DNACPR) decisions and establishing mental capacity
- Know how to assess a person’s capacity to make advance care planning decisions, and when and how to seek advice
- Understand how decisions may be made on behalf of a patient through a lasting power of attorney
