Biography

Dr Donald Macgregor achieved his BSc from St Andrews University in 1978 and MBChB from University of Manchester MBChB three years later. He was House Officer and then Senior House Officer at the then Alder Hey Childrens Hospital in Liverpool before moving to Stirling Royal as Medical Registrar. In 1985 he was appointed Paediatric Registrar at Tayside.

In 1986 Dr Macgregor moved culture and continent to take up a post as Senior Paediatrician for Highland Provinces in Papua New Guinea followed by a Research Fellow position at BC Children’s Hospital Vancouver two years later.

He returned to Scotland in 1990  as Senior Registrar and Lecturer at the RHSC Edinburgh and then Consultant Paediatrician, Lancaster & Kendal Hospitals.

Since 1996 Dr Macgregor has been a Consultant Paediatrician/Senior Lecturer at Ninewells Medical School NHS Tayside and Honorary Lecturer University of Lancaster.

Outside of medicine, Dr Macgregor was the first to run the New York Marathon in a kilt, raising funds for Autism Scotland. He has cycled Vancouver-Seattle(2002), LA to SanDiego (2004 & 2006),  Lake Eyrie-Niagara Falls- Toronto(2008) Mississippi-Baton Rouge-New Orleans(2011) all in his kilt for Lung Research.
