| Biography |
Dr Vilar qualified in Spain in 1988 and has practiced in the UK since 1990. He has been a consultant in Infectious Diseases since 2000 heading the viral hepatitis service at his hospital since then. His main interest is in blood borne viral infections and in particular methods of care delivery for populations with low engagement in health. He runs a network of BBV clinics in different settings including joined clinics in GP practices, drug and alcohol services, homeless services, prisons, and probation services. He is the regional co-chair for the operational delivery network in Hepatitis C for Greater Manchester and East Cheshire. He is also a member of the HIV Fast Track Cities Manchester group (for zero HIV transmission). He was also a member of the writing committee of the hepatitis B NICE guidance.
