Biography

Dr Ogunmekan did his undergraduate medical training in Nigeria before completing my GP training in Scotland.

He has been a GP partner at the same practice in Stoke-on-Trent since 2003.

In addition to being a GP trainer, he is also a clinical teacher with Keele University Medical School.

He was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of General Practitioners in 2013 in recognition of his local leadership on diabetes matters.

He is the lead GP for the local Diabetes Clinical Network and provides advice for the local commissioners on diabetes care and provision.

He has co-authored academic papers which have been published in journals such as the British Medical Journal, British Journal of General Practice and Midlands Medicine.

He has contributed chapters to 2 books which were published last year. One of these books is called ‘’Tackling Obesity and Overweight Matters in health and Social Care ‘’ and is available to purchase from Amazon.

Working collaboratively with local secondary care colleagues, he has been involved in the Diabetes Question Time educational event for primary care clinicians which have been held locally twice a year since 2015. These popular educational events have speakers who are affiliated with diabetes and includes Diabetes Consultants, Diabetes Specialist Nurses, Advanced Diabetes Podiatrists and Advanced Diabetes Dietitians.

He has been able to discuss diabetes matters on a local radio station.

He is also an aspiring drummer.
